Business days calculator
Pick two dates, count the workdays between them.
How many business days are in 2026?
261 weekdays, and 250 once the 11 federal holidays are taken out — in 2026 each of them is observed on a weekday.
Which holidays are skipped?
The 11 federal holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What if a holiday falls on a weekend?
Federal employees get the day off on the Friday before a Saturday holiday or the Monday after a Sunday one; the calculator skips that observed day. July 4, 2026 is a Saturday, so Friday, July 3 is skipped.
Is the start date counted?
No — the count starts the day after the start date and includes the end date, the way "within 10 business days" is usually counted.
What date is 10 business days from now?
Choose "Add business days" and enter 10. Ten business days after Monday, September 28, 2026 is Tuesday, October 13, because Columbus Day (October 12) is skipped.
Do banks and courts use the same business days?
Not always. The Federal Reserve Banks, state courts, stock exchanges and private contracts each have their own lists of holidays and days when they are open. This calculator uses Monday through Friday and the US federal holidays. If a deadline matters, check the rule that governs it.
How do I count the business days in a month?
Enter the last day of the previous month as the start date and the last day of the month as the end date, because the start date itself is not counted. The result already leaves out weekends and, if you choose, the federal holidays.
Does it count Saturdays for shipping or delivery times?
No. Only Monday through Friday are counted. Some carriers deliver on Saturdays, so a stated delivery window in business days may differ from the carrier's own calendar.
How the calculation works
The calculator steps through the calendar one day at a time. It does not count the start date, it counts the end date, and it counts a day only if it is a Monday to Friday that is not skipped as a holiday. When holidays are switched on, the observed date of each US federal holiday is skipped: if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before is observed, and if it falls on a Sunday, the Monday after. In "add business days" mode it moves forward (or backward for a negative number) until it has counted the requested number of qualifying days.
Worked example
From Monday, November 2, 2026 to Thursday, December 31, 2026, there are 43 weekdays after the start date. Taking out Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11), Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) leaves 40 business days. For the other direction, 15 business days after Friday, November 20, 2026 falls on Monday, December 14, 2026 with federal holidays skipped, and on Friday, December 11, 2026 if holidays are not skipped.
Common mistakes
- Counting the start day. "Within 10 business days of the order" normally starts the next day. If a contract counts differently, adjust the start date.
- Forgetting holidays that move. Several holidays are on a Monday or Thursday set by rule, and a Saturday or Sunday holiday moves the day off to the Friday or Monday.
- Assuming everyone's business days are the same. A bank, a courier and a government agency can each count differently.
